Each month we ask one of the Blocc team members to tell us a little bit more about themselves. This month we’d like to introduce you to Jennie!
Name:
Jennie Darby
Position:
Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?
It was definitely an old Manager, she pushed me out of my comfort zone and trusted me to do the job which made me grow in confidence, so I have adopted that approach through my working life and so far so good!
My favourite quote is…
“At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.” ― Maya Angelou
I live by this quote.
What behaviour or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
I think I am approachable and although I work hard, I also like to get to know people and ask lots of questions. Some people say I’m nosey but I like to say that I am inquisitive and care. 😊 I think it really gives an insight to other people and their behaviours and gives a good understanding of other people’s personality types.
What was your first job?
My first job was in a bingo, I called the mini bingo and checked tickets.
What led you to this career?
I think I am quite a logical thinker and I prefer being behind the scenes and working in operations is definitely behind the scenes. I just like getting things done, making decisions and knowing that I can make a difference.
What inspires you at work?
I definitely think it is the people you work with, but also watching the success and the growth, I have to believe in what I am doing and have to believe in the company and what it stands for.
Colours and patterns you love?
I know working for an interior design company that this is going to sound boring but I am loving black and white monochrome. I just love how clean it looks when it is done right.
What are your favourite items for the home?
Plants! I love plants that hang over shelves. They brighten any room. Also, I love mood lighting. It can change a room completely.
What advice would you give to your teenage self?
It’s a cliché but believe in yourself.
What’s something you saw recently that made you smile?
Ohhh this is difficult to pin point, but my dog makes me smile, some of the silly things she does.
What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
Ahh can I have two things? I like to go for a walk to clear the mind and I also enjoy a gin and tonic with my new husband chatting about our day
Favourite holiday destination and why?
No competition for me on this, I went to the Maldives a few years ago and it was the most relaxing holiday I have ever had in such a picturesque location – I loved it because the service was impeccable, the staff couldn’t do enough for you. I think service is so important and so many people get it wrong but wow it was just amazing! I have never experienced anything like it.
