The Buzz At Blocc – Jane

Each month we ask one of the Blocc team members to tell us a little bit more about themselves, so we can start to get to know the person behind the fabulous interior designs. This month we’d like to introduce you to Jane!

Name:
Jane Grasier

Position:
Design Manager

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?
The one and only Dawn Kitchener. She makes me push my designs to the limit and has shown me never to be scared to try new things.

What behaviour or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
I would like to think that I am a very sociable person (some people would call me a chatter box). This helps because we are such a tight team and we all need to work well together.

What was your first job?
My first job was in a coffee and luxury patisserie shop at the age of 13. I loved the fact that I was earning my own money and could make a mean cup of coffee whilst providing my friends and family with delicious samples of chocolates and cakes.

What led you to this career?
I always loved art and design at school so went onto study interior textiles at university. Part of my course was a placement at an Interior Design Company. I used every spare opportunity to do extra work with them during the holidays, when I graduated they employed me as a stylist, the rest is history as they say.

What energises you at work?
Every day is different, every project we work on is different. I love that we get to create designs from brief and plan stage, and get such an excitement seeing my designs turn into reality.

What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?
There have been quite a few through my career. When I first started I went on a tv show called our house (many moons ago) to show how to style an apartment. Was lucky to be involved in major exhibitions at Earls Court, have got to create some beautiful show houses, and present day being the creative manager of the design team.

What advice would you give to your teenage self?
Believe in yourself and your passion, don’t settle for anything that doesn’t make you happy.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
Not a lot really, I where my heart on my sleeve.

What’s something you saw recently that made you smile?
My friends, they always put a smile on my face and make me laugh, at least we can see each other again.

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
I’m not very good at receiving compliments I would rather dish them out…….

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
Definitely a glass of wine and my kindle.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wasn’t really sure I just knew I had to do something involving art, I used to draw houses with all the furnishings, so I suppose that was a give away. If I wasn’t an Interior Designer I would love to be a textile or Fashion Lecturer.

If you had to pick one age to be permanently, which age would you choose?
I think it would be 19, just started working having no responsibilities working all over the country in the week and partying on a weekend. Oh I met my partner at that age too, and have two gorgeous boys to be thankful for.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Crazy about trainers.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
Watching my youngest son play football, I even know the offside rule now!!!

Are you a dog person or a cat person (or neither)?
It definitely has to be a dog. We have a new little puppy to the family called betty. She’s a beagle and I absolutely adore her, she puts such a smile on my face and is always happy to see me. I’m smitten.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
To fly, I hate sitting in traffic, which is most mornings on the commute to work. How amazing to just fly through the sky.

If you could only eat one item for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Definitely cheese of any description, my weakness, especially with French stick chutney and a glass of red wine.

What’s the top destination on your must-visit list?
I think the Maldives before it disappears, also a safari. Zebras are my favourite animal.

What’s your most hated household chore?
I could mention a few, first would be cleaning the bathrooms, living with three boys it always comes down to me. I also hate putting the shopping away, I love buying it though.

Which season is your favourite?
Its got to be summer you cant beat some heat and sitting in the garden late into the evenings, the smells and watching the garden bloom.
