Staying at the forefront of design innovation is at the heart of what we do here at our studio. That’s why we make it a priority to attend Maison Objet, one of the world’s leading design events held in Paris, where designers, artisans, and creative minds gather twice a year to explore the latest trends and ideas shaping our industry. The show is not only an opportunity to discover cutting-edge design but also a space for meaningful connections between global creatives and an ever-evolving design landscape.
This year, Maison Objet didn’t disappoint. Walking through the expansive halls, we were immersed in themes that reflect today’s design dialogue—blending imagination with technology, sustainability with beauty, and the past nostalgia with the future dreams.
Here are five standout themes we encountered, each sparking ideas for how interiors might evolve, inspire, and captivate in the months ahead.
Tender Brutalism: An Unexpected Pairing
The beauty of Tender Brutalism lies in its contrasts—pairing the industrial rawness of materials like concrete and metal with soft, inviting textures. The allure of this trend lies in finding the balance between the harsh and the gentle, using organic forms to soften the edges of the stark and uncomfortably angular. Imagine a home where concrete walls become the backdrop for a cloud-like sofa or fragile green biophilia, making spaces feel both structured and comforting.
In many ways, this trend invites us to rethink how we approach minimalism. Rather than stripping everything back to cold essentials, it offers a more human-centric interpretation—one that embraces imperfections and finds beauty in the interplay between rough and smooth.
New Heritage: Craftsmanship Reimagined
Due to the growing appreciation of traditional craftsmanship, New Heritage melds time-honoured techniques with modern aesthetics. The weaving, woodworking, and embroidery that have been passed down through generations are now being infused with contemporary shapes and sustainable materials to create a decorative celebration of history that feels fresh and relevant.
Think of how a handwoven tapestry might take on a new form hanging in a minimalist space. The charm of this trend is the sense of artistry it brings into the home.
Cosmic Design: Dreaming Beyond
The allure of the cosmos has found its way into interiors with Cosmic Design, bringing with it celestial themes and galaxy-inspired patterns. From deep, inky blues and shimmering metallics to feature lighting that mimics a starry night sky, this trend brings a sense of other worldliness into the home.
From iridescent surfaces to dark midnight tones and glowing finishes, Cosmic Design creates a wonderous dreamscape that suggests connection to something bigger than ourselves—a trend full of the mysteries of the universe.
Cosmic Design also links closely to Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2025—Future Dusk, both tapping into our fascination with the unknown and the emotional connection we feel when gazing at the night sky. Quirky Collectibles: A Playful Touch
Quirky Collectibles is all about letting personality shine. Homes are becoming more than just styled spaces—they’re personal reflections of the people who live in them. This trend encourages the mixing of eclectic objects that bring joy, tell stories, and spark a smile. It’s about embracing unexpected pairings, like an antique cabinet and contemporary art, or a whimsical sculpture placed in an otherwise formal room.
There’s a freedom in this approach to design—one that allows for individuality to take centre stage. It’s about curating a space that feels alive and layered with pieces that reflect a sense of fun, making a house truly feel like a home.
Painterly Patterns: The Art of Imperfection
Finally, we come to Painterly Patterns – these prints, shapes and patterns, inspired by hand-painted artwork, invite a sense of fluidity and creativity into interiors. Bold brushstrokes and watercolour effects lend a feeling of movement to textiles, wallpapers, and ceramics, making every piece feel emotive and unique.
Rather than striving for perfection, this trend celebrates the art of the imperfect. It’s a reminder that design can be just as much about expression as it is about form. Whether it’s through a sweeping abstract mural or a simple textile that feels handmade, Painterly Patterns celebrates artistic flair.
The emergence of these trends at Maison Objet really highlighted for us the shift in how we all live, create, and connect to our spaces. Design is becoming more personal and increasingly reflective of our own individual stories.
In the year ahead, our designs will lean more into storytelling and creating spaces that appeal to the modern-day buyers need for personal expression. From the masculine/feminine balance of Tender Brutalism to the artisanal techniques of New Heritage, through to the eclectic nature of Quirky Collectibles and the awe and wonder of Cosmic Design, 2025 will be a year of deeper creative connection and innovative expression.
